The Jen Hodge All Stars were formed for a one-off gig I had on my birthday in November of 2010. Shortly thereafter, we found ourselves with a regular gig at a delightfully debaucherous haunt by the name of Guilt & Company, located in Vancouver’s historic Gastown district. Our weekly Wednesday nights there have grown into a wonderful scene of friends, fans, fellow musicians, lindy hoppers, and interesting revellers from all walks of life. With this recording, we have endeavoured to capture the spirit, energy, and mischief of an All Stars night at Guilt & Co.

Please enjoy responsibly… or not, we won’t tell.

I would like to thank…
Evan, Bonnie, & Dave for being the best bandmates anyone could ever hope for, both musically and personally; Arnt for writing a fantastic song about our regular gig and letting me use it on this album, as well as for all the great playing and friendship; Nick for the great playing and the enthusiasm with which you’ve tackled this music; all the other musicians who have ever worked with or sat in with the All Stars; the Vancouver swing dance community for being so fun and inspiring to play for; Darren Scherck for the birthday gig which started it all; Jody Bowen for hiring us at Guilt & Co; Jordan Stewart for keeping us there; the entire Guilty family, past & present, staff & patrons; Isobel Allen-Floyd for making my life easier; Andy and Tony for making this album sound how it ought to; Shawna for the incredible drawings; Rosea for the late nights of hard work on what I think is a beautiful finished product; Malcolm and Dave for the wonderful photos; all the great musicians who have come before us for their inspiration and guidance; and last but far from least, Marth, Fro, Sim, & Mike for your continued love, support, and laughter.

Track Name: Daddy Won't You Please Come Home
When night is creepin' and I should be sleepin' in bed
If you were peepin', you'd find that I'm weepin' instead
Well, my loving daddy left his baby again
He said he'd come back but he forgot to say when

Night after night, I'm cryin'
Daddy won't you please come home
Daddy won't you please come home, I'm so lonesome
No one can fill that favourite chair
Home isn't home when you're not there
No need to knock, the door is open for you
Even the clock keeps tickin'
Daddy won't you please come home
Daddy do you have to roam so very long
There's lots of other new sheiks who would like to be sheikin'
I haven't slipped yet, but I'm liable to weaken
Daddy, Daddy won't you please come home.
Track Name: Viper Mad
I'm viper mad
Must have my fun
I'm never sad
It can't be done
The people are talking
But I don't care
I'm 21, I'm far from done, I've just begun
Wrap your chops
'round this stick of tea
Smoke this gage
And get high with me
Good tea's my weakness
I know it's bad
It sends me gate
And I can't wait
I'm viper mad
Track Name: Diga Diga Doo
There's a place they call Samoa
A place you all should know-a
It's by the sea
Loving there is just the most
Don't palaber in the post
They command each other
Understand each other
Love and mamas there are free
You don't give them repartie
Wooing a tropical maiden
Doesn't take topical talk
You manoeuver and if you approve her
You can win her love in one walk, oh....

Zulu man is feeling blue
Feel his heart beat a little tattoo
Diga diga doo, diga doo doo
Diga diga doo, diga doo.
Oh you love me and I love you
And when we love it's natural to
Diga diga doo, diga doo doo
Diga diga goo, diga doo.
I'm so very diga diga doo by nature
If you don't say diga diga to your mate you're
Gonna lose your mama
So let those funny people smile
How can there be a virgin isle
With diga diga doo, diga doo doo
Diga diga doo, diga doo
Track Name: Hesitation Blues
If I was whiskey, and you were a cup
I'd dive to the bottom and I'd never come up
How long do I have to wait?
Can I get you now, or do I have to hesitate?

Mama, mama, mama, look at sis
She's out on the levee doing the double twist
How long do I have to wait?
Can I get you now, or do I have to hesitate?

I knew a lady, she was tall
She made me think about my parasol
How long do I have to wait?
Can I get you now, or do I have to hesitate?

She said, "touch my bonnet, touch my shawl,
But do not touch my waterfall"
How long do I have to wait?

Come in here, you dirty little sow
You try to be a bad girl, you don't know how!
How long do I have to wait?
Can I get you now, or do I have to hesitate?
Track Name: Let's All Go To Guilt & Co
Oh, hear that bass a-slappin'
Rhythm's takin' hold
Let's all go to Guilt & Co
Where the beer is cold
Try a game of Jenga
Or a whiskey shot
Let's all go to Guilt & Co
Where the music's hot
Where guilty parties gather to have fun
At midnight they have only just begun
If you feel like sinning
Sin that feels so right
Let's all go to Guilt & Co
Come on down tonight
